European brands often run smaller or use number sizes (like 4, 5, 6) or cm. The fix is simple: measure, then trust the brand chart.
Step 1: Measure
Measure around your waist where your underwear sits, with the tape flat but not tight. Write it down in inches and cm.
Step 2: Check the brand's own chart
Every brand is different. Always use the chart on the product page.
- Olaf Benz: uses number sizes.
- Example of a US-style chart (Obviously): S 30–32" (75–80 cm), M 33–36" (81–90 cm), L 37–40" (91–100 cm), XL 41–44" (101–110 cm), 2XL 45–48", 3XL 49–52".
Step 3: Think about the cut and fabric
- Low-rise cuts (bikini, tanga, string) sit lower on the hips, where you may measure bigger or smaller than your waist.
- Very stretchy fabrics (high elastane) are more forgiving.
- Between sizes? Obviously suggests going up for relaxed or down for snug. That's a good rule elsewhere too.
Step 4: Know the return policy
Underwear returns are often limited. Check before you buy. (HOM's EU store lists free returns within 30 days; US terms may differ.)
